Søren Brier, a cybersemiotician, provides the theoretical foundation for understanding sign processes and embodied perception in interactive systems—the framework that allows HCI design to move beyond mere interface mechanics toward genuine semiotic exchange between user, medium, and environment. His work enables Jacques's argument that contemporary interactive art and ubiquitous computing create "hybrid environments" where perception itself becomes the generative site, extending Duchamp's creative act into the user's ongoing interpretation of the world. Through Brier's cybersemiotic lens, the course positions AI systems not as neutral tools but as participants in meaning-making across spatiality, temporality, and embodied cognition.
