In this course

Jeff Sanders co-developed with Luciano Floridi the "method of levels of abstraction" (LoAs), an epistemological framework for analyzing information systems, conceptual phenomena, and their modeling across different scales of analysis. The course readings invoke this method as a foundational tool for studying how computational and informational systems can be understood through multiple analytical lenses—moving beyond rigid, individualistic, psychologistic approaches toward more socially constructible and inter-subjective modes of analysis. This matters for Pandaemonium Architecture's concern with how AI and cybernetic systems operate at multiple registers simultaneously, from the technical to the social and conceptual.
